Investigators have confirmed the identity of the man who was killed in a vehicle collision that was later determined to be a fleeing incident on Monday morning along Jefferson Boulevard.
The deceased individual, Jaivon Ugene Best, who was 31 years old and originally from Washington, D.C., was involved in the accident at about 6:10 a.m. on Monday, June 30 in the 10200 block section of Jefferson Boulevard. When emergency personnel and medical responders arrived at the location, they found Best in a critical state. He was then taken to the hospital, but he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Initial reports indicate that Best was walking on Jefferson Boulevard when he was struck by a car moving in the eastbound direction. Following the impact, the driver left the scene but has since been identified as a 18-year-old female from Goshen. Law enforcement officials stated that the driver has been located and is cooperating with the ongoing examination.
The St. Joseph County Fatal Crash Team was summoned to address this incident, which follows standard protocols for serious traffic accidents.
As of Tuesday, no charges have been lodged, and the investigation continues.
