Fatal Kaufman County car crash death of Kason McKellar
A fifteen-year-old named Kason McKellar from Fort Worth met his demise when their vehicle collided with a large truck on Interstate 20 within Kaufman County, as confirmed by the Texas Department of Public Safety. The catastrophic accident happened on the previous Saturday and involved multiple vehicles. The cause of the incident was attributed to a truck driver who apparently fell asleep at the wheel.
Kason was with his family at the time of the tragedy. He passed away along with his father, Zabar McKellar, his mother, Krishaun McKellar, and their grandfather, Billy McKellar. Their family car was struck by a big rig traveling at high speed. The massive truck then pushed through the opposing lanes of traffic on I-20.
Kason’s twenty-year-old sister, Evan McKellar, is the only known survivor from the immediate family. She is currently being treated in critical condition at Parkland Hospital in Dallas and remains hospitalized.
The individual driving the commercial truck is Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, a twenty-seven-year-old. He has been arrested and charged with five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon. According to authorities, his sleep-related driving failure caused the terrible crash.
The truck that caused the accident was operated by Hope Trans LLC, a transport company based in Tacoma, Washington. This company has a history of issues concerning its drivers working beyond allowed driving hours. Attempts to get in touch with the company have so far been unsuccessful.
Officials have not yet been able to identify a fifth person who died in a different vehicle involved in the collision.
To assist with the medical expenses for Evan McKellar, a verified GoFundMe page has been set up. In a post shared via the fundraiser, the family conveyed their deep gratitude for the prayers, support, and kind contributions received during this difficult period.
Further details regarding the crash are expected to be released by investigators on Wednesday.
