A Chicago-area family is grieving the tragic loss of David Meneou from Joliet and his son, Jameson Meneou of Lockport, who both drowned in Lake Michigan near Indiana Dunes.
The incident took place Saturday afternoon around 4:20 p.m. at Boaters Beach, located in Burns Harbor, Indiana.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, the two men were pulled from the water by a bystander at Indiana Dunes National Park. Despite efforts to save them, both were later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Officials identified the victims as 65-year-old David Meneou and 20-year-old Jameson Meneou. Authorities confirmed that they were father and son.
David’s brother shared with ABC7 that Jameson had autism and described David as a devoted father who always prioritized his son’s well-being.
Preliminary findings indicate that Jameson ventured into deep water and began to struggle. David attempted to save him, but also encountered difficulties and was unable to stay afloat.
