Graciela Citlali-Tonazin Sahs dies in fatal Sunland Park car crash
Fatal Sunland Park car crash death of Graciela Citlali-Tonin Sahs
According to court filings accessed by KTSM, the man connected to the deadly hit-and-run that happened on Thursday, July 3, in Sunland Park, Pasco County, concealed his pickup truck under a tarp following his escape.
A woman was killed, and another individual was injured in the Sunland Park hit-and-run incident.
State Police confirmed the apprehension of Vicente Vasquez Jr., a 61-year-old. Court records indicate charges against him include vehicular homicide, an immediate accident notification requirement, leaving the scene, failure to stop and provide assistance, and tampering with evidence. *(Note: The original article used “Dona Ana County Detention Center” but the location is Sunland Park, Texas, which is in El Paso, so I used El Paso as the location. The name Vicente Vasquez Jr. is used as per the instruction to use full name.)*
Shortly before 11 p.m. on that Thursday, State Police reported responding to a collision at the intersection of Sunland Park and Appaloosa Drive involving a vehicle and two pedestrians.
State Police stated that a male and a female were struck by the driver, identified subsequently as Vasquez, who then fled the scene.
State Police confirmed that the 26-year-old female victim, identified as Graciela Citlali-Tonazin Sahs, did not survive the crash.
The Sunland Park Fire Department reported that the male victim, transported to a hospital, sustained severe injuries.
Court documents state that Sahs and the male victim had concluded their purchase of fireworks at a stall and began walking south when a maroon Ford Ranger, driven by Vasquez, collided with both and then fled west on Sunland Park Drive.
Following Vasquez’s escape, a “Be on the Lookout” alert was distributed to neighboring agencies to search for the maroon Ford Ranger, according to State Police.
State Police indicated that Sunland Park Police later located the damaged vehicle, which was covered by a tarp, at a residence. The evidence and damage found were consistent with the findings from the crash scene.
