Fatal Charlotte shooting death of Gabriel Jacob Lee and Colby Cash Smith
Two people have tragically lost their lives following a violent encounter reported in the early hours of Saturday morning within Charlotte’s Uptown district, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has confirmed.
Police units responded to North Caldwell Street around 1:30 a.m. on July 5. Upon arrival, officers found two individuals suffering from wounds caused by firearms. One person died immediately at the location, while the other was rushed to a hospital in serious condition.
Subsequently, police were notified that a third individual, who was also shot during the incident, had been taken to the hospital independently. This third person was reported to have sustained injuries that are not believed to be immediately life-threatening.
Tragically, the second victim succumbed to their injuries later. The Charlotte authorities have identified the deceased men as 27-year-old Gabriel Jacob Lee and 18-year-old Colby Cash Smith. No further updates regarding the third injured person are available at this time.
This incident is now being treated as a homicide. Police have not yet shared any information concerning possible suspects or the origin of the gunfire.
