A one-year-old girl named Blakely Blosser died after being attacked by a family dog in her home. The incident occurred on Lake Road in Dover Township, Ohio. According to Tuscarawas County Sheriff Orvis Campbell, the attack happened just before 6 p.m. on July 2nd. Dispatchers initially reported no response to the 911 call, but the mother was reached during a second call. She informed authorities that her dog had killed her infant daughter. Deputies arrived to find the child with severe injuries to the face and neck, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The mother told law enforcement that she was inside the house with her daughter when the dog initiated the attack. Sheriffs noted that the mother sustained defensive wounds during the incident, indicating she attempted to protect her child. Sheriff Campbell stated that the dog, a pit bull, had a history of aggression towards other canines but had not previously threatened humans. Following the tragic event, the child’s father, who was absent at the time, made the difficult decision to humanely euthanize the animal.
Blakely Blosser was described by family members as a joyful child who shared a close bond with her brother. They shared a heartfelt message, stating, “Her joyful essence shone brightest when she was playing with her brother. Their bond was pure and filled with laughter, offering moments of joy that will forever reverberate in the hearts of our family.” The family expressed deep sorrow, adding, “We will hold on to every memory, every picture, and every video forever in our hearts. Blakely was deeply loved.”
The Tuscarawas County Prosecutor’s office is reviewing the case, but it is unlikely that criminal charges will be filed against the family. Despite the devastating loss, the family is focusing on honoring Blakely’s memory.
