Pennsylvania State Police officials announced on Tuesday, July 8, that a man was killed when his vehicle collided with a PennDOT assistance truck on I-95 South. The fatal incident occurred near mile marker 9.0 at approximately 2:05 a.m. in Tinicum Township.

The victim, identified as Michael Mayberry, age 42 from Aston, was operating a black Nissan Versa. According to PSP Troop K, the accident happened when Mayberry’s car struck the rear-right side of a PennDOT RAM 5500 pickup truck stopped in the left lane.

The PennDOT vehicle was equipped with yellow flashing lights and an arrow board to alert approaching traffic while providing support at another crash scene. Law enforcement stated the roadway was straight, dry, and well-lit, with no traffic problems reported before the collision.

Mayberry, who was not wearing a seatbelt, suffered critical injuries in the impact. Emergency Medical Services from the Tinicum Township Fire Company transported him to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Medical personnel confirmed his death at the hospital.

The truck driver, Michael Leonard, a 47-year-old from Philadelphia, was secured by a seatbelt and escaped injury. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and required towing from the accident scene.

Clayton Towing removed the damaged Nissan Versa, while EVB Towing transported the PennDOT truck. The Pennsylvania State Police Department has not released any charges related to this incident. Preliminary investigation by authorities indicates they are still determining potential factors such as drug or alcohol influence.
