Fatal Yakima car crash death of Jason W. D. Timm

A motorcyclist lost their life in an accident along State Route 410 Thursday, with the driver of the other vehicle arrested on charges related to the fatality.

The incident occurred during the evening hours on Thursday. Law enforcement officials from the Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office and the Washington State Patrol were dispatched to the scene around 8:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, the suspected operator, identified as 33-year-old Reese Perkins, was present. Emergency medical services were providing care to Jason W. D. Timm, the motorcyclist, who was subsequently transported to Yakima Multicare Memorial Hospital, where his condition proved fatal.

What transpired?
Perkins informed investigators that he had recently departed from the Woodshed Restaurant and was en route to a nearby campground where he had been staying for multiple days. He stated he was making a left turn into the campground when his vehicle appeared in front of the motorcycle, resulting in the collision.

Sun in his eyes?
According to Perkins, the sun was obstructing his vision, and he claimed he did not spot the motorcycle until it was too late. However, authorities noted that Perkins failed a roadside sobriety assessment and declined to submit to a breathalyzer test at the scene. Consequently, he was taken into custody on charges of Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and vehicular homicide. Perkins admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that day while engaging in recreational activities with companions.

The investigation continues.

Reese Perkins, 33, was operating a vehicle on SR 410 Thursday evening. He told authorities he was turning into a campground when he collided with Jason W. D. Timm, a motorcycle operator.

The Yakima County Prosecutor’s Office is reviewing the case. Troopers initially responded to the scene at approximately 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Jason W. D. Timm was transported to Yakima Multicare Memorial Hospital following the accident and later succumbed to his injuries.

Perkins asserted that the sun’s glare prevented him from seeing the approaching motorcycle in time. Law enforcement indicated Perkins failed sobriety tests and was arrested for DUI and vehicular homicide. He acknowledged his alcohol consumption earlier in the day during recreational activities.
