Fatal Louisa County car crash death of Kathleen Hayes
LOUISA COUNTY, IOWA — A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred Wednesday morning at the intersection of County Road G52 and W66, resulting in the death of one individual, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The fatal accident took place at approximately 11:51 a.m. on July 10, 2025.
Initial reports indicate the incident began when a 2011 Chevrolet HHR traveling southbound on W66 approached the G52 intersection. Traffic signals showed the driver stopped at a stop sign before proceeding, but investigators determined the Chevrolet HHR failed to yield right-of-way to the oncoming 2019 Freightliner semi-tractor.
The semi-truck, operated by TriState Envelope Corporation, collided with the driver’s side of the passenger vehicle. Both vehicles sustained significant damage after leaving the roadway. Emergency responders reported the semi-tractor partially entered a drainage ditch while the Chevrolet ended up on the roadside shoulder.
Kathleen Hayes, identified as the deceased, was confirmed to be wearing a seatbelt at the time of impact. Funeral arrangements have been handled by Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral Services. No other individuals involved in the collision sustained injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck remains unidentified pending further investigation. Cleanup operations at the accident scene were completed with no hazardous materials involved.
The Iowa State Patrol continues to examine all aspects of this fatal intersection crash. Local towing services removed the vehicles from the scene. Authorities will provide additional information as it becomes available to the public.
