Law enforcement officials announced charges against a local man following a fatal pedestrian collision. Michael Ables, a 62-year-old resident, faces multiple accusations related to the incident. These charges include first-degree manslaughter, driving under the influence, and fleeing the scene of an accident involving serious injury.

The fatality occurred late Tuesday evening when Ables collided with Haskellene Westbrook, a 70-year-old pedestrian. According to police reports, Westbrook and another woman were walking along the roadside on Voca Road when the collision happened. The male driver of a white pickup truck ignored Westbrook after the incident, continuing his journey.

Emergency medical services confirmed Westbrook’s death at the scene. Following the accident, investigators procured surveillance footage from a nearby religious institution. This video helped identify a vehicle matching Ables’ truck, which was observed traveling westbound at the time of the incident.

Law enforcement secured Ables’ vehicle at his residence. Through a search warrant and field sobriety assessments, authorities apprehended him. The suspect admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the incident but reported having no recollection of striking a pedestrian. Ables was subsequently processed at the Atoka County Jail and later released on bond.
