Fatal Opelika stabbing death of Janiah Thomas
Early Sunday morning authorities discovered a woman deceased inside a motor vehicle accident scene in Opelika.
The official who examines bodies has confirmed the individual killed is Janiah Thomas, who was 22 years old and a local resident of Opelika.
Emergency services were alerted at approximately midnight to a disturbance reported on Comanchee Drive, number 600 block. When officers arrived, they observed a vehicle that had collided and found Thomas with serious cuts.
Medical professionals transported Thomas to a healthcare facility, East Alabama Medical Center. Despite their efforts, she passed away before doctors could complete their treatment, at around 1:20 a.m.
Law enforcement has formally accused a 35-year-old woman, named Tempest Vanshay Reese, of causing a death through violent means. Reese is considered missing and is being searched for.
