Fatal KISSIMMEE Taser use death of Derik Bonet-Rodriguez
The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office confirms the death of 31-year-old Derik Bonet-Rodriguez. The incident transpired on Sunday, July 13th.
The fatal encounter occurred in the westbound flow of North Main Street, close to the junction with West Vine Street, as per the sheriff’s office report.
Deputies reported observing Bonet-Rodriguez darting between vehicles in the traffic lanes. This prompted an attempt by officers to apprehend him, which unfortunately escalated into a physical struggle.
In response to the altercation, a sheriff’s deputy utilized the department’s Taser device. The suspect was promptly handcuffed following the deployment. However, once restrained, Bonet-Rodriguez lost consciousness.
Emergency medical personnel from the Osceola County Fire Rescue arrived at the scene. They transported the unresponsive man to a nearby hospital, where officials later confirmed his death.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) has been notified and is conducting an investigation into the force used by the deputy.
