Police were dispatched to the Centennial Neighborhood area following reports of a serious traffic mishap involving a bicycle and a motor vehicle on the evening of Sunday, July 13, 2025. At the scene, emergency responders encountered an injured cyclist from Portland, whose identity was later confirmed as Raymond L. Myers, aged 85. He was then airlifted to a medical center, where medical professionals initially anticipated his recovery.

The operator of the car, identified as Hiep P. Tran, age 54 and also from Portland, was present at the scene but later apprehended by law enforcement. Police observed indications of impairment and arrested Tran. He was subsequently taken into custody at the Multnomah County Detention Center and formally accused of lesser assault and operating a vehicle while impaired. Further investigation was initiated after Myers’ passing was officially confirmed by police on Monday, July 14, 2025, which resulted in the addition of a charge related to negligent homicide against Tran. The victim’s relatives were also contacted regarding the tragic outcome.
