Fatal Riverside County shooting death of Gustavo Melendrez-Hernandez

Law enforcement officials secured an arrest related to the fatal shooting of Gustavo Melendrez-Hernandez in Riverside County.

The identified suspect is Cecilio Nando-Gonzalez, who is 28 years old and a resident of Coachella. This information was provided by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

According to reports, sheriff’s deputies arrived at a residence located in the 84000 block of Avenue 51 in Coachella. The arrival time was shortly after 10 a.m. on July 7.

When deputies arrived, they found Gustavo Melendrez-Hernandez suffering from a wound caused by a gunshot. He was at that time a resident of Coachella, age 29.

A booking photograph of Cecilio Nando-Gonzalez, who is 28 and also from Coachella, was released by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.

Emergency medical technicians transported the injured individual to a nearby hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries after a three-day hospital stay.

Investigators later concluded that Cecilio Nando-Gonzalez was the main suspect in the fatal shooting. He was placed in custody on charges of attempted murder and processed for admission into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.

No further information regarding the circumstances of the shooting, such as potential motives or the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim, was made public.
