Fatal Greensboro incident death of Er’Mias Mitchell.
Greensboro authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the death of a young boy following an event at a local dental surgery.
The child’s maternal grandmother informed WFMY News 2 that her grandson and his family traveled from Salisbury to the Valleygate Dental Surgery Center on Thursday for a scheduled dental treatment. The family indicated the two-year-old arrived at the dental office early Thursday morning for a procedure involving dental caps on several front teeth.
Family members stated that the child’s condition deteriorated rapidly after the appointment began. Emergency services and law enforcement personnel responded to the dental facility within approximately 30-40 minutes of the child’s arrival.
The child was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital emergency department. The family expressed their frustration about not receiving notification from the dental office regarding the child’s critical condition until after he had already been transported to the hospital.
A relative described the emotional distress experienced by the child’s mother, stating she witnessed the ambulance departing without her being immediately informed of the emergency.
The child’s maternal grandmother shared a personal memento, a necklace featuring portraits of her two grandsons, including the deceased child. She expressed her profound grief over the loss.
Kyra Smith, the child’s mother, described the traumatic experience, emphasizing that no family should endure such pain. She specifically mentioned feeling immense fear when the dental receptionist abruptly summoned her without explanation.
The child’s father, David Mitchell, recounted the final moments before the emergency response. He expressed his fear when the receptionist summoned him to an examination room just as the procedure was underway.
Both parents conveyed their devastation and expressed their intention to seek answers regarding the events that led to their son’s death.
The parents also voiced their dissatisfaction with the dental office’s response, noting that emergency medical procedures were reportedly initiated without immediate communication to the family.
