Fatal San Francisco electric scooter crash death of Peter David Rudolph
An elderly gentleman who was involved in an electric scooter collision while walking in San Francisco on July 18 and subsequently passed away at the hospital was identified on Wednesday.
Identified by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the individual is Peter David Rudolph, aged 77, from San Francisco. According to the San Francisco Police Department, the incident occurred on Market and Sixth streets in the Tenderloin District shortly before 4 p.m., when a rider on an electric scooter collided with Mr. Rudolph.
The operator of the electric scooter remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. As of Wednesday, no charges have been filed against the scooter operator.
A pedestrian hit-and-run incident occurred in San Francisco Wednesday. A local pedestrian safety advocacy group reported that the same intersection has seen 13 pedestrian-related accidents involving various vehicles since 2015.
This unfortunate event represents the ninth pedestrian fatality in San Francisco this year, according to Walk San Francisco.
Marta Lindsey, the Communications Director for Walk San Francisco, expressed concern regarding pedestrian safety in the city. She noted that individuals walking in San Francisco should not have to fear being struck by any type of vehicle, including electric scooters. Ms. Lindsey highlighted that electric micro-mobility devices can quickly reach higher speeds, thereby increasing the likelihood and severity of a collision.
