Birmingham police have apprehended a person of interest in connection with the death of a man. The victim was involved in a vehicle collision early Wednesday.

Investigators report that Mr. Hughes crashed his car in the front yard of a residence on Avenue L in Ensley at approximately 3 a.m. Following his identification.

The man, identified as Devin Wayne Hughes, was 32 and a resident of Birmingham. The fatal shooting took place during the early hours of Wednesday.

According to police statements, two individuals were passengers in the vehicle at the time of the incident. They were present when the gunfire occurred in the 1300 block of 42nd Street.

Mr. Hughes attempted to leave the scene after the shooting but lost control of his car, leading to the crash. The two passengers then fled the area and eventually contacted law enforcement.
