Fatal East Chicago car crash death of Justin Curtis
A 42-year-old man from Valparaiso, whose name is Justin Curtis, passed away early Wednesday morning as a result of a one-vehicle traffic incident occurring off Cline Avenue, authorities reported. The Lake County Coroner’s Office officially identified Mr. Curtis as the individual who passed away, attributing his death to injuries caused by blunt force trauma sustained during the accident. Medical personnel pronounced him deceased at approximately 6:47 a.m.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement units arrived at the Cline Avenue and Michigan Avenue exit area in East Chicago shortly before 5 a.m. Officials stated that it was believed Mr. Curtis had a sudden loss of vehicle control as he attempted to navigate onto the exit ramp. Consequently, his car collided with a traffic exit sign and subsequently impacted a nearby concrete support structure. The ongoing crash investigation is being handled by Sheriff Oscar Martinez through the agency’s Crime Scene Investigation unit.
Support services from the East Chicago Fire Department were dispatched to the scene to assist with the incident response.
