Merseyside authorities announced that a 46-year-old man faces murder charges following a blaze that killed two elderly relatives in St Helens. The tragic incident occurred on July 15th in the early morning hours. Lee Owens, described as having no fixed residence, was formally accused of two murder counts and arson intended to threaten lives. He is currently held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court. A separate 31-year-old man from St Helens, who was apprehended on suspicion of murder, is under conditional release.
The victims, Eric Greener, aged 77, and Sheila Jackson, 83, had resided in the same home for fifteen years. Police investigations revealed an accelerant was deliberately employed to ignite the fire on South John Street.
