Johnny Carson Carter dies in fatal shooting in Henry County

Fatal shooting death of Johnny Carson Carter in Henry County

Henry County authorities announced Friday the arrest of a 13-year-old male regarding the death of 79-year-old Johnny Carson Carter. Due to the suspect’s age, his identity has been withheld by officials, though charges have been filed against him.

On Thursday, July 17, law enforcement officers responded to reports of an unconscious individual located on Vista View Lane in Ridgeway. The man, identified as Johnny Carson Carter, was pronounced deceased upon arrival.

Initial assessments suggested the injuries might have been related to a motor vehicle incident. However, subsequent examination confirmed these wounds were the result of a homicide. The Virginia State Police were informed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that the cause of death was a single gunshot wound.

The minor suspect is currently being held at a juvenile detention facility without the possibility of release.
