Fatal Regina shooting death of Brando Peji

Regina law enforcement has arrested an individual in connection with an ongoing murder probe. This investigation was triggered by an incident earlier this month where a police officer, operating without a uniform, resulted in the death of a 29-year-old male.

According to a statement issued by the Regina Police, Bradley Gardiner, who is 19 years old, has been formally charged with manslaughter and the crime of unlawfully imprisoning someone. These charges are linked to the city’s most recent homicide case.

Two weeks ago, on July 14th, Regina police were dispatched to the 3,000 block of 4th Avenue. Upon their arrival, they discovered the body of Brando Peji, who was 53 years old. The preliminary assessment by authorities was that Peji’s death was unusual, and this classification was later upgraded to murder the day after.

Following Peji’s death, Regina’s Major Crime Unit started a formal investigation. During this probe, on July 18th, two plainclothes officers encountered a 29-year-old male in the alleyway located between Athol and Garnet streets.

Based on preliminary findings from Saskatchewan’s Serious Incident Response Team, after giving verbal orders, one of the officers fired a shot that led to the death of the 29-year-old man. This independent team, which is civilian-led and examines incidents involving police violence, is currently reviewing the fatal shooting.

The report indicates the man who was killed was a person of interest in the investigation related to Peji’s death. The identity of the 29-year-old deceased officer has not been publicly revealed.

Bradley Gardiner appeared in court for the first time on Friday morning.
