Fatal Belleville shooting death of Jason Richardson
A man identified as Jason Richardson, aged 50 and residing in Tweed, has tragically passed away due to injuries he sustained during an assault incident earlier this year. This violent act has resulted in formal charges of first degree murder being filed against Mr. Richardson. On May 31st, Belleville law enforcement received an urgent report from the city’s eastern region, initially prompted by emergency medical services at the scene. When officers arrived, they discovered a 72-year-old woman suffering critical head injuries. Emergency medical personnel immediately transported her to Kingston General Hospital, where her condition was deemed life-threatening. Preliminary investigations subsequently led police to apprehend a male individual accused of committing aggravated assault.
The Belleville Police Department’s Uniform and Criminal Investigations sections initiated a comprehensive probe into the incident. They meticulously identified a suspect and the vehicle involved in the attack before emergency responders arrived. During their investigation, officers encountered a second adult female victim who was reportedly subjected to sustained criminal harassment by the same accused individual. Police initially struggled to locate the suspect but eventually received a report from a nearby incident in the same area. Upon discovering the suspect near their vehicle, officers attempted a controlled stop, but the individual briefly pulled away before reversing and intentionally colliding with a police car, causing considerable damage. The suspect, later identified as a 50-year-old man from Tweed, was subsequently apprehended by officers. A loaded hunting rifle was located on the passenger seat of his vehicle. The officer involved in the damaged cruiser was medically assessed at Belleville General Hospital for precautionary reasons.
The suspect faces a series of serious charges, including impaired driving, illegal firearm possession while operating a vehicle, aggravated assault, harassment, unauthorized weapon carrying, assault with a weapon, assault on a peace officer, reckless firearm handling, illegal firearm possession, and driving under suspension.
Tragically, on July 17th, the Belleville Police Criminal Investigations Unit was formally notified that Barbara O’Donnell, the first female victim who had received medical treatment, had unfortunately passed away. As a direct consequence of this development, the charges against the suspect were formally increased to first degree murder. On July 24th, Jason Richardson was officially arrested and charged under Canada’s Criminal Code with the serious offense of first degree murder. He had been held in custody since his initial arrest back on June 2nd.
