According to East Lampeter Township police, a serious collision occurred on Old Philadelphia Pike/Route 340 in the early hours of Friday morning, resulting in one fatality and one injury. An SUV and a sedan collided near Elmwood Road in East Lampeter Township, authorities reported.
Emergency services arrived at the intersection shortly after 10:56 p.m. Following the incident. Rescue personnel found the driver of the sedan, a man in his 30s, trapped within the vehicle and managed to free him. However, the chief confirmed that this driver, later identified as 39-year-old Edward Roberts Jr. from Middletown by the Lancaster County Coroner’s office, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Tragically, Roberts Jr. was discovered in a yard adjacent to the roadway.
The driver of the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Following the crash, a significant stretch of Old Philadelphia Pike/Route 340 was closed to traffic, disrupting travel in the area for several hours. The East Lampeter Township Police Department has officially classified this incident as under their active investigation.
