Fatal Florida car crash death of Patrick Britt

William Britt, aged 68, and his son Patrick Britt, aged 30, both residents of Jacksonville, Florida, were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon near I-95 in Yemassee.

According to reports from the Colleton County Coroner, Richard Harvey, the two individuals were traveling southbound in the same motor vehicle during the collision. The fatal pileup took place at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday, located roughly half a mile north of the Yemassee town border. This major traffic incident involved a significant number of vehicles, including cars, trucks, and commercial vans, as confirmed by South Carolina Highway Patrol Cpl. Nick Pye.

Emergency services responded to the scene and reported that over two dozen individuals sought medical assistance on the spot. Additionally, about ten people were transported to nearby medical institutions. Tragically, four people, including the two fatalities, were initially trapped within their automobiles and were subsequently rescued by responding first responders.

The investigation into the cause of the crash has highlighted that witnesses observed extremely poor weather conditions at the time of the incident. Specifically, heavy thunderstorms created conditions with virtually no visibility, which directly prevented the deployment of medical helicopters to provide aid. As a result, the significant traffic disruption caused by the accident led to the complete closure of the southbound lanes of I-95, a situation that persisted until approximately 3:00 a.m. the day after the accident.
