Identified as Darrion Thompson from Elk Grove, the deceased was involved in a fatal accident on Highway 99 within Merced County. Law enforcement sources indicate the incident transpired shortly after 2 a.m. on Monday, situated near the Livingston area. According to the officers, Thompson was operating his Chevrolet Malibu in the opposite lane, specifically the faster-moving one on the roadway, located just south of Hammatt Avenue. His vehicle collided head-on with another automobile driven by a 41-year-old man from San Bernardino, who was operating a Toyota Camry. The intense impact resulted in Thompson’s car deviating across all adjacent lanes, placing it directly in the path of a large truck in the slower lane. The truck could not avoid the collision in time, and Thompson’s vehicle struck the trailer. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. Four additional individuals inside the Chevrolet Malibu were transported to a medical facility for assessment. The driver of the Toyota Camry and the operator of the big rig sustained no injuries.
