Fatal Eastern Creek car crash death of Darren Barlow

Emergency services responded quickly to a motorsports facility on Ferrers Road in Eastern Creek around 8:00 PM on Saturday evening after reports emerged of a vehicle collision occurring during a formally sanctioned auto racing competition.

Medical professionals provided urgent care to the individual operating the vehicle, but the 53-year-old participant unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the accident site.

According to local news coverage, Mr. Barlow was confirmed as the driver, and he was piloting a Stohr WF1 automobile at the time of the incident.

Following the race, Ric Shaw, the head of the RX8 Cup division, rose to speak with Mr. Barlow before the race concluded. He later conveyed, “I couldn’t see him afterward, and I missed the opportunity to chat again,” with visible emotional distress evident in his words.

In his official capacity, Mr. Barlow held the position of chairman for the New South Wales council under Motorsport Australia, serving in that role from 2023 until 2025.

Earlier in 2019, at the same racing park, Mr. Barlow achieved two triumphs. During that period, he shared with Motorsport Australia that he had a strong passion for participating in the events.

He added, “From my perspective as a competitor in the series, I genuinely relish the championship races because of the exceptional talent among the racers. I consider myself fortunate to have won this specific event after some close matches with Alex Kenny.”

Motorsport Australia informed the public that they had learned about the fatal accident during a state championship race on Saturday night. The organization issued a statement extending their deepest sympathies to the victim’s family and friends, as well as to the race officials and emergency responders who were present. Additionally, they stated that their critical incident management protocol is now active, and their staff are in coordination with the New South Wales Police and the event venue to address the situation.
