Dakota Hawver dies in fatal Reno shooting
Fatal Reno shooting death of Dakota Hawver
Police confirmed this morning that Dakota Hawver, who authorities previously suspected of opening fire at the Grand Sierra Resort, has passed away during the early hours of the morning. The 26-year-old Reno resident had been admitted to a hospital in critical condition following the incident at the resort.
The incident unfolded on Monday, resulting in three fatalities. According to law enforcement officials, two of the victims were vacationers from Southern California attending a bachelor celebration. The third individual killed was identified as Angel Martinez, a local resident of the area.
Investigators working out of Sparks are spearheading the examination of the case. So far, authorities have not established any apparent connections between Hawver, the casino property, or the victims involved. Additionally, their review has yet to determine a possible cause for the alleged violence.
Two other individuals who were struck during the incident remain under medical observation at the hospital. Officials indicate these individuals are expected to achieve complete recuperation.
Police reports state that Justin Aguila and Andrew Canepa, both aged 33 and hailing from Southern California, were shot fatally from the rear as they were awaiting transportation near the valet service.
Hawver, a Reno resident, is reported to have legally obtained a 9mm handgun two years prior to the incident. Officials have noted he did not possess a documented criminal background and had no prior record indicating mental health challenges. Detectives have determined the suspect fired approximately eighty rounds from this specific firearm during the encounter. The shooter was observed concealing themselves behind a parked automobile while executing the attack.
