Fatal Monterey County car crash death of Kevin Columb Lynch
The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is examining a fatal incident that occurred on Monday morning in Monterey County, where a Tesla vehicle ignited subsequent to a collision.
Approximately at 1:41 in the early morning hours, a white Tesla automobile was reported to be moving southbound along River Road, specifically north of Chualar River Road, and was being operated by an individual whose identity had not been determined at the time.
For reasons that remain unclear to investigators, the car unexpectedly left the roadway and collided with a tree. Following the impact, the vehicle subsequently started to burn.
Emergency medical services dispatched to the scene reported that the driver was pronounced deceased by responders before they could provide aid.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office later confirmed the identity of the deceased man as Kevin Columb Lynch, who was 63 years of age and a resident of Oxnard.
A statement released by a CHP representative in a media advisory indicated that investigators were still determining whether the fatal accident was influenced by the driver’s alcohol consumption or if the Tesla was configured to its full self-driving capability at the time of the crash.
