Fatal Salisbury Township multiple vehicle collision death of Gavin J. Long
The motorcyclist killed in the Sunday accident on Interstate 78 in Salisbury Township has been identified by officials. Gavin J. Long, a 20-year-old from Middle Paxton Township, Dauphin County, is the deceased. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:15 a.m. and died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained in the crash. The death was determined accidental by Lehigh County Coroner Daniel A. Buglio.
No other individuals sustained injuries in the incident.
Trooper Nathan Branosky, who serves as a public information officer for the Pennsylvania State Police’s Troop M, stated the crash occurred approximately at 10 a.m. in the eastbound direction of the highway, close to mile marker 58.8.
Gavin J. Long was riding a 2024 Yamaha in the middle lane. According to Branosky, the driver of a 2022 Volvo semi-trailer was just ahead of Long.
A third motorist, controlling a 2025 Cadillac Escalade, was situated in the left lane, alongside Long.
Branosky explained that Long attempted to change lanes, resulting in him striking the rear driver’s side of the semi-trailer with his motorcycle. Due to this impact, Long was thrown forward and subsequently collided with the semi-trailer. During the collision, the motorcycle also contacted the front passenger-side fender and bumper of the Cadillac.
The ongoing investigation into the crash involves the Lehigh County District Attorney’s Office, the Pennsylvania State Police in Fogelsville, and the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office.
