Amr Ali dies in fatal Lodi shooting
Fatal Lodi shooting death of Amr Ali
Bergen County’s chief prosecutor, Mark Musella, has issued an update on the ongoing probe into a deadly shooting that happened at a home on Garibaldi Avenue in Lodi, New Jersey. This investigation is a collaboration between the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, with oversight from Chief Matthew Finck, and the Lodi Police Department, directed by Chief Donald Scorzetti.
On the evening of August 3, 2025, at about 10:57 p.m., Lodi Police were called to multiple reports indicating gunfire at a property on Garibaldi Avenue. When they arrived, emergency personnel found a man who was unresponsive and showed signs of being shot, prompting them to start immediate rescue efforts. The 33-year-old man, identified as Amr Ali, was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center and later confirmed dead because of the gunshot wound. The Lodi Police then informed the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office about the Major Crimes Unit, and detectives from the office joined the investigation at the scene.
Early stages of the investigation by detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit Homicide Squad and the Lodi Police Department indicate that Amr Ali was trying to force his way into the house using a pointed item. After failing to break the front door, he attempted to enter by breaking a window. At that moment, the 62-year-old homeowner, who was inside the house with two other people, confronted Ali and fired three shots, hitting him once. Additional research showed that Amr Ali was a recent tenant residing in a basement apartment of the residence.
This case remains under examination by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, with guidance from Chief Matthew Finck, and the Lodi Police Department, supervised by Chief Donald Scorzetti. No additional information is available at the moment due to the active nature of the probe, and further developments will be shared as they become known.
