Fatal Vancouver shooting death of Branden Michael Whitcomb

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office has officially confirmed the identity of the individual who was fatally shot by a deputy during a July occurrence. He is identified as Branden Michael Whitcomb, a 36-year-old resident of Vancouver. According to the county’s medical examiner, he succumbed to injuries resulting from bullet wounds, which impacted his head, neck, and torso.

The incident took place on July 30 near the intersection of Main Street and East 19th Avenue in the downtown Vancouver area. Emergency services provided on-scene medical aid, but despite their efforts, they were unable to save the man’s life, resulting in his death at the location.

Based on information from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office, responding officers were dispatched shortly after 10:40 p.m. following a 911 call from a citizen who feared their child posed a threat of violence. The caller stated that the suspect had forcibly entered their residence through the main door, was impaired by methamphetamine use, and had been drinking.

After the initial call, it was reported that the suspect exited the dwelling on a bicycle. Shortly thereafter, a local police officer spotted him in possession of a firearm.

Ongoing probes by Washington’s Office of Independent Investigation are focused on scrutinizing collected evidence and reviewing security footage to establish the circumstances leading to the fatal outcome. Furthermore, video from body-worn and in-car cameras is set to be made available to the public at a later stage.
