MICHAEL HATCHER dies in fatal Virginia stabbing incident
Fatal Virginia stabbing incident involving Michael Hatcher
Harrisonburg authorities report that Michael Hatcher, a 65-year-old resident, lost his life during a late Sunday home invasion in the Rockingham County area. Responding to a 11:58 p.m. call about an armed intruder, deputies discovered Hatcher outside his residence, having suffered injuries from a confrontation. Inside, they found the intruder, Kevin Moses Walker, who was also pronounced dead. Tragically, Hatcher’s 62-year-old wife, Holly Hatcher, had already been stabbed to death by Walker before Hatcher could respond.
The investigation confirms that Walker entered the home and murdered Holly Hatcher. Attempting to flee, Michael Hatcher encountered Walker and, under duress, fired his weapon, resulting in the fatal shooting of the intruder. Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson described the circumstances as “highly unusual,” characterizing the event as “violent and tragic.”
Interestingly, despite Hatcher’s lethal action against the intruder, the Commonwealth’s Attorney, Marsha Garst, has announced that charges will not be filed against him. The ongoing investigation continues to focus on the unusual details of this violent crime, with officials maintaining discretion out of respect for the victim’s family. Publicly available information remains limited regarding Walker’s potential motives or connections to the homeowners.
