Fatal Wilmington car crash death of Noah Giovanni Johnston and Brooklen Mae Wallace

The Wilmington Police Department announced today the identities of two individuals killed in a serious car accident that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to the police, the individual operating the vehicle at the time of the incident was Noah Giovanni Johnston, who was 21 years old and from Indianola, Iowa. Johnston had recently been assigned to military duties at Camp Lejeune.

The passenger in the vehicle was identified as 18-year-old Brooklen Mae Wallace, a Wilmington native.

The collision transpired at approximately 1 a.m. on August 3. Responding officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Willard Street, finding the vehicle extensively damaged and wrapped in flames.

The Wilmington Fire Department provided assistance in extinguishing the blaze.

Upon arrival, police found the car heavily engulfed in flames. The police department confirmed that Johnston and Wallace succumbed to their injuries directly at the crash site.

Eyewitnesses have reported that the single vehicle involved was traveling south on Burnett Boulevard, close to the access point to Greenfield Park.

One person who observed the incident, Owen Robinson, resides directly across the street from the location. He was returning home after a night out when the smoke was spotted. His statement to WECT indicated awareness of the severity, saying, “It’s usually very quiet here, and there’s not usually any activity like this happening, and traffic moves quite slowly adhering to the posted speed limits. So, I was taken aback by the considerable impact of an accident unfolding right there.”

The car collided with a street sign and a substantial concrete divider before hitting a tree. Following the impact, the vehicle disintegrated into multiple pieces and subsequently ignited. A portion of the surrounding wooden fence at Greenfield Park also succumbed to the fire.
