West Bridgewater authorities confirmed that the 18-year-old woman, Nataliya O’Connell, succumbed to severe injuries sustained in a serious traffic incident on Tuesday, July 29th. Her passing was reported on Saturday, August 2nd.
Initial reports indicated O’Connell was driving along the southbound section of Route 24 sometime around midday on Tuesday. According to the District Attorney’s office, her vehicle collided with another car. Following the impact, her car reportedly crossed the median and overturned.
Emergency responders transported the injured driver via helicopter to a hospital in the Boston area. Tragically, she later passed away from her injuries. Following the accident, Route 24 in West Bridgewater was briefly closed to allow the medical helicopter access for landing.
A fundraising page has been established to assist O’Connell’s family with funeral expenses. Her boyfriend, Matthew Murphy, described her as possessing the sweetest and most caring nature anyone could imagine. He shared, “She fought a long, hard battle that we are all very proud of. She loved her friends and family more than anything in this world.”
Details surrounding the incident include that O’Connell was involved in the traffic accident on the day of the crash. She was taken to the hospital on the day she was involved in the West Bridgewater Route 24 crash.
As of Monday, August 8th, over 500 individuals had donated more than $35,000 to the online fundraising effort.
The Massachusetts State Police are currently investigating the circumstances of the crash. The District Attorney’s office has not yet provided information regarding whether the driver of the other vehicle involved remained at the scene.
