Fatal Burlingame car crash death of Ayden Fang

A four-year-old boy identified as Ayden Fang of Burlingame passed away last week. According to the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office, Ayden was the victim of a traffic incident in downtown Burlingame.

Police reports indicate Ayden’s death resulted from a collision where a motorist crashed her vehicle into a sidewalk area. This unfortunate event occurred just before 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The collision resulted in the death of Ayden and injured a six-year-old girl who was nearby.

Burlingame Police Department spokesperson David Perna explained the sequence of events. He stated the 19-year-old female driver was exiting a city parking facility. At the time, she entered the path of an electric bicycle being operated by an 11-year-old boy. His 10-year-old female companion was also on the e-bike.

The e-bike, which had the right of way traveling eastbound on Donnelly Street, made contact with the driver’s side of the sedan. Following this impact, the vehicle’s operator accelerated across the street. The subsequent collision with the e-bike caused the car to strike the two children. The vehicle then collided with the building structure housing the Truffle Poké Bar restaurant.

Perna further noted the children were on the sidewalk adjacent to the restaurant’s entrance. At the time of the incident, the establishment had large accordion-style windows that were open.
