Police have identified the man found deceased in a vehicle that had been damaged by fire in British Columbia’s Fraser Valley. The full details of how the incident occurred are still under investigation.

Hamza Fazil, a 22-year-old resident of Surrey, British Columbia, has been confirmed as the individual discovered in a burnt car in Popkum, B.C., at the end of July. This development comes after authorities identified the victim following the discovery.

According to reports, Fazil was located inside the vehicle around 11:35 p.m. on July 27. The incident happened in the 52100-block of Cheam Road, a region in Popkum known for its proximity to recreational facilities including a water park.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has indicated that the incident is being treated as potentially targeted, possibly linked to ongoing conflicts involving criminal gangs in British Columbia. A spokesperson from IHIT stated that the investigation is in the preliminary phases.

Sukhi Dhesi, a representative with IHIT, mentioned that investigators are working on establishing Fazil’s whereabouts and activities before the fatal incident. They are seeking public assistance from anyone who might possess information about Fazil’s movements or associations in the days preceding his death.

It has been reported that Fazil’s family notified the authorities about his disappearance. His last known sighting was at approximately 9 p.m. on the day he was found deceased, in the vicinity of the 13300-block of Old Yale Road near Holland Park.

The police are appealing to the public for any dashcam footage captured from the areas encompassing Cheam Road and Bridal Falls Road. The requested footage should be from the period between 10 p.m. Pacific Time on July 27 and 1 a.m. Pacific Time on July 28.
