Tammy Lynn Edwards dies in fatal Maryland car crash
Fatal Maryland car crash death of Tammy Lynn Edwards
Maryland authorities confirmed that a 59-year-old District of Columbia resident, identified as Tammy Lynn Edwards, died following a serious traffic incident on I-495.
According to reports from the Maryland State Police, responding officers arrived at the scene near I-495 close to Medical Center Drive in Largo on Monday, August 18th.
The cause of this tragic event was linked to a tire failure on a pickup truck. State Police investigators stated that a rear driver-side tire from a Dodge Ram 1500 vehicle traveling northbound unexpectedly separated from the vehicle.
This detached tire subsequently traveled across the highway and entered the southbound lanes, colliding with a Lexus NX200t. The Lexus, driven by Edwards, then impacted a nearby concrete barrier and guardrail.
Tragically, Edwards, who was occupying the Lexus at the time, succumbed to her injuries at the location where the incident occurred.
State police noted that the occupants within the Dodge Ram 1500 did not sustain any injuries as a result of the collision. The ongoing investigation into this Maryland State Highway Administration incident is being led by a Maryland State Police Crash Team.
