Fatal Newport car crash death of Isabelle Marsh

Conservation Officer Eric Brown confirmed two separate motor vehicle accidents involving trail bikes occurred on the Sugar River Rail Trail Thursday afternoon. The incidents, separated by approximately four miles, both involved individuals from the same outing and resulted in injuries requiring medical attention. The first crash happened near Chandler Mills Road, the second near Oak Street.

The 21-year-old female driver, identified as Isabelle Marsh from Alstead, lost control of her motorcycle-style bicycle. Reports indicate the bike fell onto its side following navigation issues near a gate. The 25-year-old male rider, Daniel Surber from Alstead, also suffered injuries in a separate incident. His trail bike reportedly struck a gate head-on after he allegedly failed to identify and navigate around the obstruction.

Both riders experienced serious injuries, though they were not immediately life-threatening. Surber was transported via ambulance to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment. Marsh declined ambulance transport and sought medical care independently.

First responders included Newport Police, Newport Fire and Ambulance, New Hampshire State Police, and a Fish and Game Conservation Officer. Preliminary investigation suggests that alcohol consumption, excessive speed, and poor visibility due to low light conditions contributed to both accidents.
