Fatal Fresh Meadows car crash death of Rodney Carrington
A previously homeless individual, confirmed by the NYPD more than a week after the occurrence, died in a hit-and-run on Union Turnpike within Fresh Meadows on the night of Tuesday, August 12.
Law enforcement reports indicate that the 61-year-old Rodney Carrington sustained lethal injuries after being hit while crossing the road from north to south near 189th Street, outside a marked crossing, by a 31-year-old driver of a 2023 Mercedes-Benz S-580.
Responding officers from the Fresh Meadows 107th Precinct, dispatched to a 911 call detailing a motor vehicle incident with a person on foot, found Carrington lying on the street with significant head and physical trauma.
Emergency medical crews transported the man to New York-Presbyterian Queens Hospital in Flushing, where he was assessed as stable initially, but he unfortunately passed away from his injuries on August 13.
The driver involved stayed at the scene, no formal charges have been filed, and the NYPD Highway District is continuing its examination of the collision.
