George E. Shaw III dies in fatal Mulvane car crash
Fatal Mulvane car crash death of George E. Shaw III
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies, including local fire departments and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office, were dispatched to a fatal intersection collision in the Mulvane region. The incident occurred near the coordinates of 103rd Street South and Hydraulic, situated west of Derby boundaries, around 3:45 p.m. Their arrival confirmed the death of a man located in a drainage ditch.
The authorities identified the deceased as George E. Shaw III, a 48-year-old resident of Mulvane. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene. Mulvane Fire & EMS, Derby Fire services, and Sedgwick County Fire & EMS personnel all responded to the scene.
According to Branden Stitt, the sheriff’s office public information officer, the preliminary findings of the investigation indicate the victim had parked on the western side of Hydraulic. He crossed the roadway with the intention of shutting down an irrigation pivot, after which he sought to return to his vehicle. During this crossing, he encountered difficulties, losing his footing and falling onto the road surface. Subsequently, he was hit by a vehicle traveling southbound on Hydraulic.
The driver involved in the collision, identified as a 55-year-old man from Wellington, sustained minor injuries and was transported to a medical facility for an overnight observation, after his car became involved in the ditch incident.
Witnesses reported that the weather conditions at the time of the accident included heavy rainfall leading to diminished visibility. However, the preliminary assessment suggests that factors impairing the driver’s ability, such as intoxication or fatigue, were not contributing causes.
Following the incident, the Hydraulic road segment is currently undergoing closure between 103rd Street South and 111th Street South as emergency response teams manage the situation. Motorists are strongly advised to navigate alternative routes to avoid the affected area.
