Fatal Berthoud plane crash death of Phillip Edward Benson

Following the incident on August 13, authorities confirmed that the deceased was a 74-year-old man from Boulder, identified as Phillip Edward Benson.

The Larimer County Coroner’s Office concluded that Benson’s passing was an accident, resulting from multiple blunt force injuries he incurred during the aircraft mishap.

Around 8:40 a.m. that morning, emergency dispatch services received notification of the crash on Larimer County Road 2, which is located west of Berthoud.

Fire crews arrived at the scene and discovered the glider engulfed in flames; they quickly extinguished the fire. Regrettably, the individual inside was already deceased.

Initial reports suggest that the ultralight plane struck electrical wires before crashing onto the roadway, causing damage to multiple power lines and poles in the vicinity.
