Fatal Dayton car crash death of Jaclyn Hamilton
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman killed when a FedEx semi-truck crashed Sunday morning. The identification was announced Tuesday.
As previously reported by News Center 7, the fatal accident happened around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. The semi-truck lost control while traveling north on Interstate 75 and exited the roadway, going down an embankment and crossing onto the State Route 4 and Webster Street exit.
Jaclyn Hamilton, a 37-year-old woman, was part of the truck’s two-person crew but was not operating the vehicle at the time of the fatal incident. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the large truck, a 35-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities stated his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
Multiple 911 callers alerted Montgomery County Regional Dispatch about the serious crash. One caller described the scene to dispatchers, stating, “There is a FedEx box truck that went off the highway and hit a pillar on a bridge.”
A second caller reported, “A FedEx truck that just flipped over the bridge.”
Investigators with the Dayton Police Department’s Traffic Services Unit are examining the crash. Police have not indicated any signs of impairment or mechanical failure as potential causes.
A Dayton Police representative suggested that driver fatigue might have played a role, noting, “It is possible that the driver fell asleep and went off the road at the curve on I-75.”
