Fatal Bakersfield car crash death of Hongyi Ji
A driver of a large truck lost their life on Monday due to a serious flipping accident on a major highway. The Kern County coroner officially identified the deceased as Hongyi Ji, a 62-year-old man from Orlando, Florida.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, on August 25, 2025, at around 2:22 p.m., officers were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle accident. The involved vehicle was a semi-trailer truck that had rolled over. This large truck was driven by Ji at the time of the incident.
The accident occurred on the northbound section of Interstate 5. Specifically, the crash happened just after the Laval Road exit ramp. Officer accounts indicate Ji’s vehicle was heading north when it veered off course, crossing into the Laval Road on-ramp before flipping onto the main road.
Emergency responders from the California Highway Patrol and the Kern County Fire Department arrived quickly at the scene. These rescue teams made every effort to save Ji, providing necessary medical aid immediately after the accident. However, despite their efforts, Ji succumbed to his severe injuries at the location where the accident happened.
