Fatal Erie County car crash deaths of Dantrail Reese, Hongwei Wang, Zhangli Liu
Three individuals have died following two separate incidents reported Sunday morning on the Ohio Turnpike within Erie County. The first collision occurred approximately at 6:40 a.m. near the Frailey Road overpass area.
According to reports from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a truck operated by a driver from Indianapolis left the road. This resulted in the vehicle striking a stationary tow truck that was on the shoulder with its hazard lights activated. In this initial event, the passenger of the striking truck, identified as 32-year-old Dantrail Reese, who is also from Indianapolis, did not survive. Fortunately, the tow truck operator was not involved in the collision and suffered no injuries.
The second accident was attributed to the heavy traffic congestion that developed after the initial crash. Around 7:30 a.m., troopers reported that a Toyota Sienna vehicle collided with the rear of a Peterbilt 389 truck-trailer combination. The occupants of the minivan, identified as 56-year-old Hongwei Wang from Chicago and another 56-year-old named Zhangli Liu, were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Peterbilt truck was not injured.
This stretch of the Ohio Turnpike experienced a closure for approximately three hours due to the incidents. Both collisions are currently being examined by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
