Fatal KANSAS CITY downtown shooting deaths of Kane Taddese and John Alfaro

Kane Taddese, who was 24 years old, and John Alfaro, who was 18, were killed in a violent incident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 24. The location was a parking area near 13th and Grand streets, which is close to the T-Mobile Center and the Kansas City Power and Light entertainment complex.

The police department has secured the area near East 13th Street and Grand Boulevard for ongoing investigations. Three other people sustained injuries during the incident; their ages and genders were not specified, but it was noted that one of the injured was a minor under the age of 18.

Multiple bullet wounds were found on the nearby buildings, and residents in the vicinity reported hearing numerous gunfire sounds. Richard Ruiz, a resident on the 19th floor of the Three Light apartment building, shared his experience: “I got up, went to the balcony, and I saw cars screeching out of here, cop cars pulling up, an ambulance, I mean, it was insane.”

Detectives assigned to the homicide unit suspect the violence began as a disagreement that unfortunately turned physical. As of Monday, there has been no official statement regarding the apprehension of any suspects.

Social media platforms were flooded with videos from the scene after the incident. A representative from the Kansas City Police Department confirmed that the homicide investigation team was aware of these videos and has made significant progress in identifying individuals featured in them.

The department issued a statement: “We continue to encourage anyone who possesses relevant information to contact the TIPS hotline or the homicide unit, so we can continue working towards justice for the victims.” The TIPS number provided is 815-474-TIPS (8477).

Residents in the downtown area expressed increased awareness of enhanced security measures. Blake Ramey mentioned, “I was out this past weekend and definitely noticed a bigger police presence… I hope the efforts will continue.”

There is also surveillance equipment in place at the exact location where the shooting happened.
