Police have confirmed that 46-year-old Brian K. Hesse was the bicyclist killed in the weekend accident in Portland’s Washington Park. The incident occurred near Sacajawea Boulevard and Southwest Lewis & Clark Circle at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday.
The Portland Police Major Crash Team reported that Hesse was operating his BMX bicycle downhill in a group of other riders when he attempted to navigate between two large rocks. This maneuver resulted in the crash, and emergency medical personnel confirmed his death at the scene.
First responders noted that Hesse was not wearing protective headgear during the incident. Authorities have informed his family about the tragic accident. Further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash is currently underway by the Portland Police Major Crash Team.
