KY — Following a fall at the Red River Gorge, a man from Mason has passed away. The incident occurred over the weekend, resulting in multiple injuries.
According to local media partners, the Fayette County Coroner’s Office has identified the deceased as Cameron Smoot, who was 24 years old. The official report states his death was caused by “sudden blunt trauma from a fall at height.”
This incident is currently being treated as an accidental death by authorities. Rescue teams responded to the scene in Whittleton Arch.
Initial reports confirmed a male had fallen approximately 40 feet from the top of Whittleton Arch to the hard ground below. Crews located the hiker, later identified as Smoot, who was conscious but required urgent medical attention. Emergency medical services requested assistance from multiple rescue teams and fire department members to complete the rescue operation efficiently.
The injured individual was transported to a hospital in the city, but unfortunately, he did not survive his injuries. His passing has been confirmed by medical professionals at the facility.
