MONICA ISLAM DIES IN FATAL LAKESIDE GULCH, FLA. SHOOTING

Fatal Lake County, Fla., shooting death of Monica Islam

Lake County authorities have officially named the primary suspect in the May homicide of a woman whose disappearance began at a Shell gas station in Eustis. The 44-year-old victim, Monica Islam, was killed when her brother-in-law allegedly shot her during a violent domestic dispute.

The investigation began when Islam was reported missing from a Shell station in Eustis. When her body was discovered two months later near Mount Dora, authorities confirmed it was a murder. The circumstances surrounding her death stemmed from a December 2024 altercation between her, her husband Rashedul Islam, and his brother Shahidul Islam.

According to law enforcement, Rashedul Islam allegedly assaulted Monica during the December incident and also took some personal documents. The situation escalated when her brother-in-law reportedly drew a weapon during the confrontation. Rashedul Islam fled to Bangladesh before law enforcement could secure an arrest warrant.

Monica’s brother-in-law, Shahidul Islam, was already in federal immigration custody at the time of his identification as the prime suspect. Detectives gathered extensive evidence linking him to the crime, including security footage, cell phone records, and other digital trails.

The Islamic family’s daughter Remy has publicly expressed her desire for justice, stating she wants those responsible for her mother’s death to face consequences. She has specifically mentioned confronting her father and uncle about their alleged involvement.

Law enforcement officials credit the U.S. Marshals Service for apprehending Shahidul Islam just days before Monica’s death. He was arrested in New York on immigration charges unrelated to the homicide. Local authorities are now focusing on completing the investigation and preparing to file charges once federal immigration matters are resolved.

Monica’s family members have described her as a compassionate person who often helped others in their native Bangladesh. Her sudden death has left the community mourning the loss of a valued member.
