A tragic multi-car collision in north Elgin has left two people dead. The incident occurred along US-290 near Saratoga Farms Boulevard during the Labor Day holiday weekend. Police are investigating the cause of the crash that happened just before midnight Saturday.
Emergency responders arrived to find several vehicles involved in the accident, with two cars catching fire. The 66-year-old man, identified as Robbie Carter from McDade, died at the scene. He was one of two fatalities reported from the collision.
Paramedics evacuated four injured individuals by helicopter to nearby medical facilities. Among the patients, 13-year-old Yareli Padierna passed away following her transport. The crash scene blocked multiple lanes of traffic for an extended period as authorities collected evidence.
Both fatalities resulted from injuries sustained in the collision itself. Fire crews worked to extinguish the flames in the damaged vehicles while awaiting the arrival of medical professionals. Elgin Police stated further updates would be released as the ongoing investigation progresses.
