Sacramento authorities have identified the individual killed following the collision on northbound Interstate 5, located north of Sutterville Road. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office reported that Victor Manuel Castaneda, a resident of Sacramento aged 21, passed away as a result of the accident.
His sibling, Viviana Castaneda, created a fundraising page to support the family’s funeral arrangements. According to her statement, the deceased was attempting to maneuver his disabled vehicle toward the off-ramp when the semitruck collided with it. She further mentioned that the victim’s truck ignited a fire afterward, and he was unable to exit the vehicle due to sustaining injuries that left him unconscious.
The cause of death was determined by the Coroner’s Office to be related to the fire.
“My brother is gone,” Viviana Castaneda expressed. “Our family structure is shattered.”
Additional information indicates that Castaneda was pursuing a senior position in kinesiology studies at Sacramento State, with intentions to further his education through a master’s program.
“He openly expressed his faith, embraced authenticity, and loved Jesus deeply,” his sister mentioned in the fundraising appeal.
The victim possessed a warm nature, was known for his ability to connect with others, and was deeply loved by family and friends. “His absence creates an irreparable void in our hearts and household,” she added.
Emergency medical services pronounced Castaneda deceased at the crash location. The operator of the semitruck received minor injuries and was transported to a medical facility by emergency responders.
Highway authorities reported that all northbound lanes of Interstate 5 were shut down because of the collision but were restored to full operation more than two hours after the incident.
